World Autism Acceptance Week 2026

Calendar of Events Leading up to and including World Autism Acceptance Week 2026

These events are for Parents/Carers of children and young people who are awaiting an autism diagnostic assessment or have a confirmed autism diagnosis.

Thursday 19th March 2026

  • Facilitated by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council
  • Venue: The Grange, Gortin Road, Omagh
  • 10am to 12.30pm | Children & Young People under 16 years
  • 1pm to 3.30pm | Young People & Adults over 16 years

Outdoor Sensory Event – Nature Makes Sense

Suitable for children and adults with disabilities

The event is supported by NIEA Shared Island Fund and The Executive Office District Councils Good Relations Programme. Nature Makes Sense is designed for children, young people and adults with special educational needs, neurodiversity and disabilities to enjoy the outdoors in a safe, accessible and supportive environment. The event offers relaxed, sensory nature activities and opportunities to explore at your own pace, while those supporting participants can take part, learn, and gather ideas to use again in everyday settings.

Supporting Sensory Difference

Suitable for parents/carers of children and young people who have a confirmed autism   diagnosis.

This session is for parents/carers who would like to increase their awareness of how sensory processing differences can impact on their child or young person’s everyday life. We also aim to provide you with practical strategies to enable you to identify and support their sensory differences.

The Power of Play (0-7years)

Suitable for parents/carers of children awaiting diagnostic assessment.

Play is a universal language and the essence of childhood. Through play, we learn, understand and make sense of the world around us. This session will help you understand why play is so powerful and why everyone plays differently. Seeing play through your child’s eyes will open up a world of opportunity and allow your child reap the full benefits of what their play offers.

Autism and Anxiety

Suitable for parents/carers of children and young people who have a confirmed autism   diagnosis.

This session is for parents who would like to increase their awareness of and management strategies for children and young  people who present as anxious.

Lots of ideas presented for parents on how to implement ASD strategies and other general strategies in order to prevent and reduce anxiety.
