Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) service is an ophthalmology service which helps to prevent blindness in older people.

The Wet AMD Service has been developing since 2007 within the Western Trust and provides the following as part of the on-going service within the out- patient clinics:

  • Assessment and treatment for new patients
  • Ongoing assessment and treatment for review patients
  • Low vision and rehabilitation – assessment and services provided b Optometrists
  • Onwards referrals to Social Services
  • Emotional support via Eye Care Liaison Officers
  • Fluroscein angiography
