North West Centre for Neurological Rehabilitation (Formerly Spruce House) is an 18 bed specialist facility situated on the grounds of Altnagelvin Hospital. It is a unique and modern facility, specially designed to assess and evaluate the needs of patients who have acquired brain injury or neuro-disability and plan and implement rehabilitation programmes of care for these patients. In addition, the Unit provides a time limited respite service to those clients who have complex care needs.
Each patient’s programme of care is tailored towards their individual needs and circumstances. The staff within the Unit have experience and expertise in identifying and understanding the effects created by brain injury and neurological disorders, coupled with the resources to assist, educate and facilitate patients in their rehabilitation towards an agreed optimal level of independence. Staff work across a multi-disciplinary and interagency framework, encompassing a holistic approach to treatment across all disciplines. Patients and their carers, where appropriate, are involved and participate in all aspects of their assessment, goal setting, care planning, review and discharge planning.
