Dietitians assess, diagnose and treat individuals with diet and nutrition problems. They also, at a wider public health level, promote nutritional well-being providing practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.
When you see a Dietitian they will assess, discuss and advise you on your diet and nutritional health. The Dietitian can provide individualised dietary advice on a wide range of nutritional issues including:
- Obesity
- Nutritional Support
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Gastro-Intestinal disorders
- Malabsorption syndromes and food intolerances
- Dietary assessment to confirm or treat dietary related vitamin and mineral deficiencies and to assist in the diagnosis of food intolerance
- Faltering growth in children
- Kidney Disease
Clinics are held in the following locations:
- Altnagelvin Area Hospital
- South West Acute Hospital
- Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex
- Roe Valley Hospital, Limavady
- Strabane Health Centre
- Lisnaskea Health Centre
- Most GP practices
Domiciliary Visits (Home Visits) are also carried out throughout the Western Trust. If you think you need to see a Dietitian speak with your GP or other Health Professional.
