Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services or CAMHS provide a service to children and young people up to the age of 18 years. We have 3 teams, one in the Northern Sector, based in Londonderry and two in the Southern Sector. The Southern Sector CAMHS provide clinics in the Omagh base, Rivendell and in the Erne Health Centre, Enniskillen.

The multidisciplinary teams are made up of Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Worker and Clinical Nurse Specialists. The service works closely with agencies statutory and voluntary agencies.

The purpose of this Integrated Care Pathway is to tell multi-disciplinary and multi-agency care providers of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), children and young people and their parents/carers what should be expected at any point along the journey of care in CAMHS. The ‘Welcome to CAMHS’ leaflet is a shorter version that may be more easily understood.

The Regional Care Pathway for the Treatment of Eating Disorders outlines what people can expect if they are referred for treatment and provides a summary of clinical advice derived from evidence based practice. It also includes information to assist people with self-care and accessing other supports before during and after treatment.

Specialist CAMHS services are part of a wider network of service provision to support children and young people who have emotional, behaviour and mental health difficulties. Guidance which aims to support the standardization of referral criteria for Specialist CAMHS services across Northern Ireland.
