We have four general surgery inpatient wards:
- Two at the South West Acute Hospital [Emergency Surgical Ward 8 has 22 beds / Ward 9 is an Elective Surgical Ward with 18 funded beds Monday to Friday and 12 funded beds at the weekends].
- Two at Altnagelvin Hospital [Emergency Surgical Ward 32 has 24 beds / Elective Surgery Ward 31 has 28 beds]
- There is also a unit in Altnagelvin Hospital for surgical assessment prior to admission to facilitate rapid access for GP’s and to improve access to commencement of treatment required. This unit is open Monday to Friday.
The General Surgery service provides a full range of services for patients including inpatients facilities, outpatient clinics and theatres facilities.
The General Surgery service also provides sub-specialty services such as colorectal, vascular and breast care from a team of Consultant surgeons. This team of Consultants are fully supported by specialist nursing staff and a wide range of multi-disciplinary personnel in providing robust quality patient care.
Outpatient clinics are provided in Altnagelvin Hospital, Roe Valley Hospital, Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex and South West Acute Hospital. Theatre facilities providing General Surgical procedures and operations provided in Altnagelvin Hospital, Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex and the South West Acute Hospital.
There are specialist nurses providing specialist nursing care in Stoma Care, Colorectal and Vascular services.
