The Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital located just outside Omagh provides acute mental health inpatient services for adults and older people. The purpose of acute psychiatric inpatient care is to provide a high standard of care and treatment in a safe and therapeutic setting for service users in the most acute and vulnerable stage of their illness. The hospital provides adult acute inpatient services for service users in Omagh and Fermanagh Council areas plus Castlederg.
On the Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital site mental health inpatient care is provided at:
Lime Ward
13 bedded male ward which provides care and treatment to service users who, due to the seriousness of their illness, need a period away from their home and cannot be managed in an alternative community based service. Spruce Ward PICU has closed and Psychiatric Intensive Care (PIC) is integrated into services in both Elm and Lime Wards with 6 beds within their numbers that can be used for PIC provision when required.
Elm Ward
13 bedded female ward which provides care and treatment to service users who, due to the seriousness of their illness, need a period away from their home and cannot be managed in an alternative community based service. Spruce Ward PICU has closed and Psychiatric Intensive Care (PIC) is integrated into services in both Elm and Lime Wards with 6 beds within their numbers that can be used for PIC provision when required.
Oak and Ash Villas (Older People’s Mental Health wards)
Most older people with complex needs requiring specialist mental health care are cared for in their own homes or community settings, and never need to spend any time on mental health units. For a small number of older people, admission to hospital becomes unavoidable. In these circumstances our aim is to make sure that age-appropriate specialist facilities are available to our service users. The newly renovated Oak and Ash wards have been built specifically focusing on patients needs and to make sure that the patients have the best experience possible during their stay in these specialist facilities.
Visiting Hours
In all of our Hospital facilites we have specific visiting times to ensure our patients have adequate rest and recuperation, receive timely care and treatment and help maintain hospital hygiene.
Daily visiting is 3.00pm-4.00pm and 7.00pm-8.30pm. The maximum number of visitors is restricted to two per patient at any one time. For details of Exception Arrangements (e.g. relatives involved in direct care of patients) please see our Visiting Policy.
