The Fermanagh and West Tyrone Health & Care Futures Programme was established following the Health Minister’s request that the Trust produce a forward-looking Vision Plan for health and care services across Fermanagh and West Tyrone, including South West Acute Hospital. Since 16 June 2026, the Vision programme has now entered a formal phase of structured engagement with staff and the public which will inform the development the Vision for health and care services in this area. To note, as requested by many stakeholders, a longer period of engagement from June to September will be in place to allow for lighter levels of events and stakeholder engagement events in July and into August 2026.
Western Health and Social Care Trust Board were briefed on the engagement approach, which has been supported and advised on by external experts, and approved that the project team commence the formal Engagement phase of this work at its Board meeting on 7 May 2026. This has enabled the programme to commence structured engagement work with staff, stakeholders, public representatives and communities from June 2026, and follows on from a substantial period of pre-engagement, evidence gathering, relationship rebuilding and communications activity between October 2025 and May 2026. See our Engagement Hub Page for details on what we have completed to date.
The Engagement programme, along with population need evidence and other research, will support the development of a Vision for future services across Fermanagh and West Tyrone, with SWAH continuing to be positioned as a vital acute hospital within the Northern Ireland hospital network.
Detailed information on the programme of work for the vision will continue to be developed and available here on the Trust’s Online Hub for Fermanagh and West Tyrone Health and Care Futures.
