We ask for your co-operation in ensuring the safety of all patients in our care when bringing in gifts or supplies for the person you are visiting. If you are unsure whether a particular item is permitted, please check with a member of staff. Breaches of this policy may result in your visits being suspended.

Visiting Time Safety Procedure

You will be met at the ward entrance door by a member of staff and accompanied to the family room. Lockers are available to store your belonging (e.g. handbags and coats and loose items).

To ensure the safety of our patients and that prohibited item guidelines are adhered to, a search using a scanner will be conducted for each visitor before entering the ward. Items that you bring to the ward for your loved one will be checked by a member of staff. Any prohibited items found will be returned to you when you are leaving.

Children visiting the ward must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times and use the family room.

Safety is a priority in this hospital. The following items are considered hazardous and are not permitted in our inpatient units:

  • Hazards PosterVisitors are not permitted to smoke anywhere on the hospital grounds.
  • Patients are not permitted to keep sharp and bladed items such as razors, scissors, tweezers, penknives etc with their personal belongings (please speak to a member of staff if you require such items).
  • The possession, use or supply of illicit substances by anyone will be reported to the PSNI.
  • Alcohol, drugs, and any medication not prescribed for you by this hospital or by your GP must be handed over to a member of staff for safe keeping or disposal, as appropriate.
  • Patients may not be permitted to keep earphones, charger cables, belts, shoelaces, hoodie drawstrings, scarves or similar items with their personal belongings. Please speak to a member of staff if you require such items.
  • Plastic bags are not permitted in the hospital. Please give these to a member of staff to be disposed of. Paper bags are available on request.
