Do you know what Dietitians do?

Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals who are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. This means the title ‘Dietitian’ is protected.

Dietitians use the most up-to-date evidence base on nutrition science, food and health and translate this into practical advice.

Dietitians have unique skills to assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. Dietitians work in specialist areas such as cancer, renal disease, paediatrics, obesity, stroke, diabetes, COVID19 response and eating disorders (to name just a few), educating and giving practical, personalised advice.

Dietitians work across the Western Trust area, in a variety of settings including our acute hospital sites, community clinics and specialist areas as an integral part of multi-disciplinary teams providing their expertise to service users and colleagues.

Feedback from our service users:

  • “I have never felt more educated, understood and supported by someone. The dietician explained everything in brilliant detail and made sure to reassure me on numerous occasions that I was doing everything right by my daughter. I was given excellent advice and every query I had was answered fully.”

  • “The advice and service we received was exceptional it was a worrying time but she helped not only my little girl but myself along the way.”

  • “I am very grateful for this service and that my son can speak openly about his feelings and his Coeliac disease.”

  • “A true example of caring and support by a dedicated professional.”
