Chaplain, Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex
When did you start the HSC?
1999
Why did you choose to work in the HSC?
Intially I was asked by the Bishop to provide temporary Chaplaincy cover in Omagh Hospital for a few months to help to alleviate the pressure on a neighbouring colleague. That temporary arrangement became permanent and I am so pleased that it did for I had no idea just how rewarding and fulfilling that role would prove to be.
Describe what you do?
As a Hospital Chaplain I have the privilege of visiting patients, talking with them and ministering to their spiritual needs, but my role also extends to their families and especially in times of anxiety and distress. I am always readily available for all Staff members as well.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love being a Chaplain for I like people and see myself as being an important part of the Hospital team for we are all working together for the good of the patients in our care. If I can manage in some small way to bring God’s calming presence and peace into the lives of others that is reward enough for me. Thank you N.H.S. for providing me with this amazing opportunity of serving the needs of others.
