Research by Arts Council of Northern Ireland
The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has asked Perceptive Insight, a Northern Ireland market research company, to undertake research with disabled, deaf and neuro-divergent audiences to obtain their views on a new access scheme.
The scheme will make it easier for disabled people to access the arts by:
- Only requiring individuals to share their access needs once – these will be shared with venues they wishes to visit in NI or the UK;
- Enabling disabled people book tickets online;
- Providing free companion tickets; and
- Enhancing front of house support.
To help us understand the needs of disabled audiences and to gauge reaction to what is being proposed, we have developed a short survey.
If you identify as disabled and you have an interest in attending the arts we would welcome your feedback. The survey, which has been anonymised to protect individual’s identity, can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/AccessCard2022
If you need help completing the survey, contact the free-phone number 0333 323 696. The survey is open until Friday 15th April.

Patient and Client Council Opportunities to be involved
- Experience of Grief and Bereavement in Northern Ireland: The Department of Health developed and finalised the report “COVID-19 Guidance: Bereavement Advice and Support” in 2021. One of the key recommendations from this report was: “That the HSC Bereavement Network membership is expanded to become the Northern Ireland Bereavement Network, with responsibility for developing and leading the strategic bereavement plan for the next 10 years. The Northern Ireland Bereavement Network should include all relevant cross-departmental and community organisations and agencies”. We would like to hear from you about your experience of Grief & Bereavement in Northern Ireland, or if you have an interest in this area of work. As a first stage in this work, the PCC are taking forward in partnership, work on the development of a Bereavement Charter for NI as part of the NI Bereavement Network. You can read more through the link: https://pcc-ni.net/get-involved/bereavement/ You can share your thoughts with this link to a survey, below, so we can understand what matters most to people – https://consultations2.nidirect.gov.uk/hsc/7f44400c/ We understand that discussing your experience may be difficult, especially if you have been recently bereaved. If you decide to take part we would be happy to facilitate your involvement in a way that best meets your needs. You may withdraw at any point should you wish to do so.
- Calling all families with lived experience of LD. The Patient and Client Council have begun engagement with a group of families whose loved ones have a learning disability. This group, that represents all 5 Trust areas in NI, has been meeting since August 2021, and has been involved in giving family perspective to a Services Remobilising Framework being prepared by the Public Health Agency, with the aim of safely scaling up Learning Disability services, which have been restricted since the pandemic began. If you would like to join the Learning Disability Engagement Platform for Families, visit https://bit.ly/3kJ5lfi or call Suzanne Collins, Projects Co-Ordinator at PCC on 07423810015 or email suzanne.collins@pcc-ni.net. Siobhan Heaney will be providing a series of 4 SingTonicity sessions via Zoom for Service Users. They will take place on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm and will be FREE. The sessions will start on 2nd March and run until 23rd March.
Songs can help our mood, help boost our energy, and that is the magic of singing. SingTonicity is a method of looking after your health and wellbeing. It uses your breath, voice and sound all coming together to help you in times of stress, whenever you’re feeling tired or to just physically give a boost.
After a SingTonicity session Service Users will experience a feeling of well being, release of tension, lightness of spirit and a great sense of accomplishment and confidence.
“It’s like a singsong – the breathing exercises can help if you are feeling stressed and need a bit of time out – it’s like a vocal stress ball!” – quote from participant
“I have found SingTonicity to be most invigorating yet relaxing, in a totally unique way – the combination of body and vocal movements provides gentle therapy in a most humorous manner.” – quote from participant
