Our Carers Support Team hosted three Carers Carol Services across the Western Trust area to say a huge thank you to our unpaid carers for their unwavering care and support to their loved ones.

Over 200 unpaid carers were able to take a few hours out of their caring roles to connect with other carers and take part in the annual Carers Carol Services which was kindly supported  by the local clergy and school choirs.

Cathy Magowan, Western Trust Carers Coordinator said:

“For many informal carers who not get the chance to attend their local place of worship on a regular basis due to the demands of their caring role this is a wonderful opportunity for them to connect with others and enjoy the carols in a fun and relaxed setting.

“This year the Carers Support Team worked with a local charity The Kindness Post Box which organised primary and secondary pupils to write a personal message to carers on a specially designed postcard which was presented to each of the carers at the events.

“Omagh and Strabane carers received a postcard from pupils from Drumragh Integrated College, Omagh; Fermanagh carers received a postcard from pupils from Model Primary School, Enniskillen and Derry/Londonderry/Limavady carers received a postcard from pupils of Broadbridge Primary School, Derry/Londonderry.

“The events concluded with a delicious Christmas lunch at the Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh; White Horse Hotel, Derry/Londonderry and Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen. Chocolates provided with tea and coffee following the lunch were kindly sponsored by ASDA in Enniskillen and Omagh.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our carers a very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year. If you are an informal (unpaid) carer and wish to register for events held throughout the year please you contact the Carers Support Team on (028) 6634 4217 or (028) 7135 5023 for more information. Thank you.”
