The Western Trust has paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of its Vaccination Teams at each of the Trust’s three mass vaccination centres after they put in a record-breaking effort as part of the “Big Jab Weekend.”
The Big Jab Weekend was held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd August and saw over 12,000 people vaccinated across Northern Ireland, with a total of 3870 doses administered by the Western trust alone.
The main aim of the drive was to encourage people to take up their first dose and this appears to have been a great success for the Western Trust. In total its teams administered 2724 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine at its centres, which are located at Foyle Arena, Derry/Londonderry, Omagh Leisure Centre and the Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen.
Commenting on the success of the “Big Jab Weekend” event, Western Trust Director Performance & Service Improvement, Teresa Molloy, said:
“We are incredibly proud of every single member of our Vaccination Teams and our wider staff for the huge effort they have put into our vaccination programme with over 85% of our population in the Western Trust area receiving their first vaccine to date.
“Although we have delivered the programme through a variety of means, our primarily method has been via our three Mass Vaccination Centres and over the course of the Big Jab Weekend our teams have put in an incredible effort by administering a, quite frankly staggering, 3870 doses.
“On behalf of the Western Trust I would just like to publically extend our thanks to each and every one who was involved over the course of this extremely busy weekend in our continued fight against Covid-19.”
“At the weekend we saw that there is still a great demand for the vaccine and at the Western Trust we want to continue to offer people as many opportunities as possible to get the jab, now that our Mass Vaccination Centres are closed for first doses.
“Vaccination is saving lives. When we get jabbed, we are protecting ourselves, protecting others and protecting the health service. It is the single biggest contribution people can make to getting normality back. It helps opens doors to nights out, travel, music and sports events and to so many other things we have missed so much in the last 18 months.”
That is why the Western Trust is operating a series of mobile and pop up Vaccination Clinics across the Trust’s geography, and vaccines are also available at participating community pharmacies.
