We are marking World Stroke Day on 29 October 2026 by urging the public to learn the signs of stroke and remember the FAST message, as early recognition and treatment can save lives and reduce disability.
We continue to develop and improve stroke services to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.
Our multidisciplinary stroke teams work across hospital and community settings to provide rapid assessment, acute treatment, early supported discharge (ESD), specialist rehabilitation, and ongoing recovery support closer to home. Through continuous service improvement, staff education, and public awareness initiatives, we are committed to improving outcomes for everyone affected by stroke.
Our Stroke Teams are raising awareness of stroke by educating the public on stroke signs and prevention, asking the public to act quickly by remembering the FAST Campaign.
A stroke is a medical emergency, recognising the signs and acting FAST can save lives and reduce long-term disability.
Remember FAST:
- F-Face: Has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
- A-Arms: Can they raise both arms and keep them there?
- S-Speech: Is their speech slurred or difficult to understand?
- T-Time: Time to call 999 immediately.
Every minute matters, the sooner treatment is given the better the chances of recovery. Stroke can affect anyone, at any age don’t wait, and don’t ignore the signs.
This World Stroke Day, we are encouraging everyone to learn the signs of stroke, reduce their risk factors, and seek immediate help if stroke symptoms occur. By working together, we can improve stroke outcomes, reduce disability, and help more people return to independent lives following stroke. Let us work together this World Stroke Day to spread awareness, save lives, and support our community.
