World Breastfeeding Week 2024

World Breastfeeding Week is an annual worldwide campaign celebrated on 1-7th August. The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Closing the Gap – Breastfeeding Support for All’. The campaign aims to highlight the need to improve breastfeeding support to reduce inequalities that exist in society, with a special focus on breastfeeding in times of emergencies and crises.

To mark this campaign, the Western Trust has a programme of events planned. These events aim to celebrate women and their families throughout their breastfeeding journey, while showcasing the multi-agency support that is key for breastfeeding success. Multi –agency working is embedded within the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiation Gold award, an accreditation which both Health Visiting and Midwifery throughout the trust have achieved. Trust staff work in partnership with voluntary and community organisation in an attempt to deliver a seamless support network for all.
