The Western Trust Clinical Translational Research & Innovation Centre (C-TRIC) based at Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry is celebrating International Clinical Trials Day (Friday 20 May 2022) which provides an opportunity to showcase this fantastic facility and the wonderful team.
Caitríona Lavery, Research Nurse Manager, C-TRIC explains:
“C-TRIC is a dedicated clinical research facility on the Altnagelvin site which houses the Research and Development Office, University of Ulster Personalised Medicine Centre and Research Nurses Office. Our team comprises Dr Aaron Peace (Director of R&D and CEO C-TRIC), Dr Vanessa Quinn (Project Manager), Ms Diane Mackey (Research Governance Manager) Mrs Patricia Moran (Facilities Manager) and myself, Mrs Caitríona Lavery (Research Nurse Manager). We are a team of Clinicians, Academia, Clinical Research nurses, Research Facilitator, Research Administrators and Study Support Officers.
“We work collaboratively to ensure effective communication and maintain productive and proactive working relationships between the Principal Investigators, Research Nurses, Study Support Officers and the Research & Development Team in order to deliver high quality research.
“Within our Nursing Research Department, we currently have nine Research Nurses with clinical specialities that include Brain Diabetes, Cardiovascular Health, COVID-19, Critical Care, Diabetes, Renal, Respiratory Health, Rheumatology and Stroke. These studies are supported by two study support officers. We also have a Clinical Trials Pharmacist, Ed McCallion and Clinical trials Pharmacy Technician Breda Robinson.
“Our aim is to advocate and further promote awareness of clinical research, the role of the clinical research nurse and recognise the contribution that research can make to patient care. It is widely publicised that having access to research can improve the quality and health outcomes for patients. We work together to build a better healthcare future for all, providing improved patient care and outcomes for current and future patients.”
