The Western Trust recently received the award for Excellence in Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards 2026 at a recent ceremony held in Belfast.
Jaquie Hanley, Consultant Pharmacist (Antimicrobials) at the Western Trust said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be recognised in this year’s Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards for Excellence in Antimicrobial Stewardship. This is an innovative project involving antimicrobial pharmacy, Rapid Response and Trauma & Orthopaedic nursing teams who worked in collaboration with Southern Trust colleagues.
“This initiative allows narrow spectrum antibiotics to be delivered via a 24 hour infusion, significantly reducing risk of resistance and adverse effects, while facilitating discharge from hospital which has made a positive difference to our patients. Well done to everyone involved.”
