Official Launch Of Short Breaks For Children With Disabilities In The Western Trust

The Western Trust is delighted to launch our new Children with Disabilities Short Break Fostering Service at an event in the Waterfoot Hotel, Derry/Londonderry today (17 June 2026). The Short Break Fostering Service is part of a regional service which provides planned, regular short breaks for children and young people with disabilities and their families.

Speaking at the launch event Maeve Campbell, Social Work Manager, Short Breaks for Children with Disabilities at the Western Trust explains:

“This service offers children the opportunity to enjoy new experiences, build confidence, develop independence, and form positive relationships in a safe and supportive environment. At the same time, it gives parents and carers valuable time to rest, recharge, and focus on other family commitments.

“We are seeking compassionate and committed people who can provide welcoming, nurturing short-break care and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with disabilities and their families. Together, we can create opportunities, strengthen families, and help every child thrive.”
