We are inviting the public to attend one of two ‘Falls Health Events’ taking place in Derry/Londonderry and Strabane during Falls Prevention Week (18 September to 24 September 2023). Everyone is welcome to attend and no booking is required.
The first event takes place in Melvin Sports Complex, Strabane on 18 September 2023, between 10.00am and 1.00pm. This event is organised in collaboration with Annemarie Conlon, Falls Integrated Pathway Co-ordinator and Primary Care Multi-disciplinary Social Workers across the GP practices in Strabane and Donemana.
The second event takes place in Foyle Arena, Derry/Londonderry, 20 September 2023 10.30am and 2pm. This event is delivered in collaboration with Ann Marie Conlon, Falls Integrated Pathway Coordinator at the Western Trust and Primary Care Multi-disciplinary Social Work Assistants based within GP Practices across the city.
Ann Marie Conlon, Falls Integrated Pathway Co-ordinator at the Western Trust said:
“We look forward to welcoming the public, including carers and staff from the different organisations within the community, care home and hospital settings. Everyone will have the opportunity to learn how they can make a difference to falls prevention services, supporting people to stay fit and healthy.
“It is important that everyone and particularly older people are able to identify hazards that put them at increased risk of falls and serious injury. This event aims to provide people with information, advice and support. There will be opportunities for people to avail of signposting and onward referral to services that can support their needs.”
Ann Marie continued:
“We are delighted to welcome the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council who has kindly come along to support our Falls Health Events this year.
“We have a number of different stakeholders across different statutory and voluntary organisations supporting the event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the planning and delivery of the Falls Health Event this year and who helped to build on the success of the event last year.
“It is a great opportunity for members of the public to access the different organisations and find out more about the services and support they offer in a single venue.”
Charmaine McNally, GP Social Work Team Lead at the Western Trust said:
“I would like to take this opportunity to give the GP Social Work Assistants and GP Social Workers the recognition they deserve for planning and co-ordinating the upcoming Falls Health Events. They have worked collaboratively, harnessing all of their skills and pulled together such a vast array of services and an itinerary for the day which is fantastic.”
“It is important for the community to do all it can to prevent falls. I would encourage everyone to raise awareness of this event. Make falls everyone’s Business.”
