Our Carers Support Team in partnership with Derry Federation of Family Practices Multidisciplinary Social Work Teams are excited to announce the launch of the first ‘Carers Hub’ in the Foyle Arena, Derry/L’Derry on Wednesday 29th May 2024 from 11.00 am – 1.00pm.
Geraldine McLaughlin, Carers Coordinator at the Western Trust explains:
“The Carers Hub is a joint initiative between the Carers Support Team and the GP Federation MDT Social work teams. Our hope is that it will help connect carers as well as enabling carers to get information and support on a timely basis.
“The aim of the Hub is to provide unpaid carers with a place they can come on a monthly basis with any concerns they may have on a range of issues regarding their caring role.
“Carers are of course also welcome to just come down and use that time to have a cuppa and a general chat with the staff.”
“Each month there will be a guest speaker who will host a short Q&A on the work that they do. Our first speaker will be Ryan Tierney, an Outreach Officer with Make the Call. Ryan will discuss the main financial benefits that are available to carers and, where necessary, he can speak with people about their individual circumstances either on the day, or at an arranged appointment at a later date.
“This is a pilot project and, going forward, we hope to be able to roll the Carers Hubs out in other areas of the Western Trust.
“Anyone interested in attending can contact your Practice Social Worker/Social Work Assistant or the Carers Support Team T: 028 7135 5023 for more details, or simply drop in on the day.
“We look forward to seeing of you on the 29th May at 11am in the Foyle Arena, Derry/L’Derry. Thank you.”
