Thackeray Place Residential Home celebrates 50th birthday milestone providing compassionate care and support for older people in Limavady and beyond
We are celebrating the 50th birthday milestone of one of our oldest residential homes today (Friday 24 July 2026) Thackeray Place Residential Home in Limavady which has provided compassionate care and support for older people in the local area and beyond.
Speaking at the 50th birthday celebration event Carrie Simpson, Manager Thackeray RHOP said:
“I wish to warmly welcome special guests, former colleagues and friends and our current staff, residents and their families here today to mark this important milestone to celebrate Thackeray Place Residential Home’s 50th birthday. Thackeray Place in Limavady has played a vital role in supporting older people within the local community and wider Western Trust area providing high quality residential and respite care to older people who require support with everyday living whilst maintaining as much independence as possible.
“I am delighted to especially welcome our Chief Executive Karen Hargan and newly appointed Vice-Chair of the Western Trust Brian Telford to see our facility and meet with our wonderful compassionate and dedicated staff. Our Team provide 24 hour care and support in a safe, welcoming environment for residents with physical frailty and mild memory problems. We are committed to promoting dignity, independence and well-being by delivering person-centred care and support which is tailored to each resident’s unique needs, preferences and goals.”
“Thackeray Place makes a positive contribution, not only supporting older adults who are unable to remain at home and require assistance with activities of daily living but also provides much needed respite opportunities for families and carers. The homes comfortable environment, social activities and focus on well-being help foster a strong sense of belonging and companionship amongst the residents.
“As an integral part of the Limavady community Thackeray Place works closely with local organisations, healthcare professionals, schools, churches and community groups to foster inclusion and enrich the lives of the residents. Through community partnerships, intergenerational activities and local events, we encourage residents to remain active and involved within the community.
“Since opening in 1976 Thackeray Place has continued to develop service provision in response to the changing demands for specialist care within the population of older adults. In a direct response to the Western Trust initiative to enhance residential care services and the increasing need for dementia care provision across the region, Thackeray Place successfully opened a 7 bedded dementia residential unit in 2024.
“Through our commitment to compassionate care and community engagement Thackeray Place has enhanced the lives of older people across the Limavady and Western Trust area for 50 years and we hope to continue to build upon this in the years to come. Thank you to many of our past colleagues, friends, residents and families for their immense contribution to Thackeray Place. Your contribution will never be forgotten, and our present and future staff will ensure that this beautiful, calm and welcoming environment continues to thrive beyond the next 50 years.”
