Sinead McDaid

Early Years Obesity Prevention Coordination - Health Visiting Department

When did you start the HSC?

2007

Why did you choose to work in the HSC?

Nursing was the only thing i ever wanted to do from a young age. I have always been a strong and resilient individual, i thought i could use this strength to support others in need and at their most vulnerable.

When I qualified as an adult nurse in 2007, I applied to work in the Western Trust. I was extremely lucky and excited to be offered a permanent position at Altnagelvin Intensive Care Unit. Since then, I have continued to progress my career across to  public health where I qualified as a specialist community public health nurse in 2015.

Describe what you do?

I am based within the Western Trust Health Visiting Dept, I am the early years obesity prevention coordinator.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy chatting with the parents,  hearing their stories and being in a position to offer a practical, solution focused programme that works, in partnership with families, promoting improved emotional and physical health for all the family.

It really is a great thing to be able to offer help that really makes a difference!
