Housekeeping, Support Services Altnagelvin
When did you start the HSC?
01/11/1994
Why did you choose to work in the HSC?
I began as a support service assistant in Gransha and then gained my cooking & management qualifications and got a job as a cook in the whsct nursing homes, progressing to head cook in patients kitchen and the staff restaurant. I then moved into Housekeeping as a Team Leader in Altnagelvin. I like doing for others, helping patients and staff in the hospital. I thought it would be a great place to work and it must be because I’m still here. It’s steady and has good terms and conditions. Helping others is very rewarding and you never know when you would need it yourself.
Describe what you do?
I’m currently a Team Leader in Housekeeping, which is a very rewarding job. Its quite busy, it involves the cleaning of the hospital, following WHSCT procedures to keep the hospital safe.
I supervise ward clinical areas and office areas following schedules and frequencies laid down by the NHS hospital cleaning standards.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
It can be rewarding although it can have its moments, I enjoy meeting people & supporting them, guiding the new staff on hospital ways. Its good to see the patients journey and them getting home.
I like the challenges that hospital life brings every day. I still learn something new every day
