Medical Director
Dr Brendan Lavery was appointed to the role of Medical Director of the Western Trust in June 2022.
He graduated from Dundee University in 1996 and worked in clinical roles across Northern Ireland before moving to higher training in Emergency Medicine in England in 2001.
Dr Lavery completed his training in February 2006 and is on the GMC specialist register with qualifications in Emergency and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
His first Consultant post was in Causeway Hospital where he worked for over 10 years before relocating to Altnagelvin Emergency Department.
While working in Altnagelvin ED he was the Unit Clinical Lead and was appointed to Associate Medical Director for International Recruitment.
As Medical Director he has remit over under and post graduate medical education and has been involved in the successful implementation of the Ulster University Graduate Entry Medical School.
He continues to have close links with clinical colleagues in hospital medicine and has a special interest in providing medical cover for sporting teams.
