The Renal Team in Omagh Hospital and Primary Care complex is supporting World Kidney Day 12 March 2026 by highlighting ‘’Kidney health for all: caring for people, protecting the planet’.

On World Kidney Day’s 20th Anniversary, Geraldine McCrory Renal Unit Manager has stressed the need for more awareness of the early stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD), a major and growing global health challenge, affecting 1 in 10 people worldwide.

Geraldine said: “Chronic Kidney Disease is often silent in its early stages and can progress unnoticed until it causes severe health consequences, profoundly impacting individuals and their families.

“The disease significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular complications, reduces quality of life, and may advance to kidney failure, where survival depends on life-sustaining kidney replacement therapies such as dialysis or transplantation.

“Early detection of kidney disease can save lives. Simple blood and urine tests can identify kidney dysfunction, allowing timely treatment to help slow progression of the disease.”
