The Western Trust Adult Learning Disability Occupational Therapy Team is celebrating the successful five-week Inclusive Bike Group programme enjoyed by residents at Ralph’s Close, Derry/Londonderry.
Over the past 5 weeks, residents of Ralph’s Close have enjoyed taking part in an Inclusive Bike Group at Foyle Arena, led by the Adult Learning Disability Occupational Therapy Team in partnership with Derry City and Strabane District Council Sports Development Team.
The programme provided a fantastic opportunity for residents to develop their cycling skills, increase physical activity, build confidence and enjoy the many benefits of being active in a supportive and inclusive environment. Cycling not only promotes physical health and wellbeing but also encourages social connection, independence and fun!
To celebrate the end of the programme, residents and staff came together for a presentation of certificate and medals, a delicious buffet lunch and a visit from the ice cream van.
A special thank you to all of the residents and staff who embraced the challenge each week and participated with such enthusiasm, to Roisin McDermott Manager of Ralph’s Close for her warm hospitality and ongoing support, and to the Sports and Physical Coaches Lisa McAleer and Lisa Curran whose expertise and encouragement helped make the programme such a great success.
The Adult Learning Disability Occupational Therapy Team is proud to support opportunities that enable individuals to develop skills, participate in meaningful occupations and achieve their personal goals. It has been wonderful to see the residents grow in confidence and enjoy the many benefits that inclusive cycling can bring.
Well done to everyone involved.
