We are pleased to confirm that we have entered into a new contract with the Foyle Hospice for the provision of Community Specialist Palliative Care Nursing Services in the Omagh and Fermanagh areas. The new contract came into effect on the 10th September 2023.
Foyle Hospice is already renowned for providing high-quality community specialist palliative care nursing services within Londonderry/Derry, Limavady and Strabane and looks forward to supporting the delivery of community palliative care nursing services across the whole of the Western Trust.
Donall Henderson, Chief Executive at Foyle Hospice said,
“Over the last number of weeks there has been a transition period, and we are pleased to report that this has been relatively seamless and we are confident that we are delivering expert specialist palliative care nursing services to patients in their own homes across the whole Trust.
“We have already committed to increasing the level of workforce within the service with a recent new appointment bringing the number of nurses in the Fermanagh and Omagh community team up to four. We have also integrated the Community Specialist team within the Trust by co-locating all the staff in the South West Acute Hospital and Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex. This now enhances multi-disciplinary team working on a daily basis as our nursing staff are now located with all the other Trust Palliative care services and the local General Practitioners.”
Mrs Donna Keenan, Executive Director of Nursing within the Trust also stated:
“The Trust is delighted to enter into this expanded partnership with the Foyle Hospice which will enhance the community palliative care nursing service for the residents of Omagh and Fermanagh.
“I can provide reassurance and this new contract will specifically increase the Trust’s ability to provide high quality palliative and end of life care to people from Omagh and Fermanagh in their own homes.”
As well as the provision of the Community Nursing Service, Foyle Hospice staff in partnership with the Trust will offer support to community colleagues such as local GPs, Community Nurses and Care Homes when more complex or specialised needs arise. They will also work closely with colleagues in both OHPCC and SWAH to ensure the delivery of community palliative care services to people in their own homes.
