Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

13/10/2021

The Chair of the Western Trust, Mr Sam Pollock and Chief Executive, Mr Neil Guckian were delighted to host Dr Angela Garvey, Lord-Lieutenant of the County Borough of Londonderry, to plant an Oak Tree in the grounds of Altnagelvin Hospital today.

The tree-planting ceremony was arranged to mark the start of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative locally. A project created to celebrate Her Majesty’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The QGC initiative is encouraging people from across the United Kingdom to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’ during the official tree-planting season, from October through to the end of the Jubilee year. It is an inclusive national initiative, meaning that everyone can get involved. The public, community groups, schools, public sector organisations and businesses are being invited to embrace the QGC and play their part in enhancing the local environment.

During the short ceremony Dr Garvey paid tribute to the work and commitment of staff during the pandemic.
