Our Cardiac Assessment Unit (CAU) at Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex is celebrating winning the Improvements in Cardiac Services for Chest Pain Management award at the 21st Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards held at the Europa Hotel, Belfast last week. The awards provide an annual showcase of the health and social care sectors ongoing success stories and exemplary potential.
Commenting on the success of the Cardiac Assessment Unit, Caroline Oates, Urgent Care and Treatment Centre and Cardiac Assessment Unit Manager said: “The success of the Cardiac Assessment Unit is testament to the dedication, commitment and aspirations of all the staff to provide a high standard of care and treatment with a focus on person centeredness and adherence to current guidelines in treating cardiac conditions. The staff in the Unit very much appreciate the support from our consultant cardiologists and in particular Dr Paul McGlinchey and as a team we pride ourselves in working together to give the best possible service to our patients.”
Caroline added: “The Unit is a unique nurse-led 24-hour / seven days per week service in which patients can self-present with symptoms of chest pain, palpitations, dyspnoea and syncope / pre-syncope episodes. Patients presenting with a cardiac problem will have a thorough clinical assessment, the team will then formulate a management plan including diagnosis, initiation of appropriate treatment and/or arrange further cardiac investigations either as an outpatient or through direct admission to the cardiology bed base.”
Western Trust Chair Sam Pollock and Chief Executive Dr Anne Kilgallen are pictured with Cardiac Assessment Unit staff following the Trust Board meeting at the Hospital this week and paid tribute to the excellent care provided by the staff in the Unit to the local community.
