A new sensory garden is a welcome outdoor space for Killadeas Service Users
Our Adult Learning Disability Day Opportunities Service is delighted to officially open a new sensory garden last month.
The new sensory garden provides a safe, welcoming outdoor space for service users who attend Killadeas Day Care Enterprise Centre and the Share Centre, Co Fermanagh.
Speaking at the official launch of the new sensory garden Patricia Griffith, Killadeas Day Centre Manager expressed her sincere thanks to every involved in making the sensory garden a reality. She said:
“This garden has been developed thanks to the generosity and efforts of families and friends of service users past and present whose support turned the vision into a reality.
“The special opening ceremony was attended by service users, management, staff, families and supporters of the service. Adding to the celebration and excitement of the day was the performance of popular country singer Derek Ryan who very generously performed for all present.”
“The garden is already proving a wonderful addition to the service. It has been designed to provide both a stimulating and relaxing space that is very accessible for service users so that they can enjoy the outdoors safely. The garden incudes a basket swing, tactile activities, raised planting beds and a water feature providing an opportunity for sensory exploration.
“Staff and service users are keen to develop the garden further, with plans already in place to add further features and activities as funds become available.”
“Today is a wonderful celebration of community spirit and generosity and I wish to acknowledge the kindness of everyone who has supported us over the past number of years. I also wish to give a special mention through the generous support of the families and friends of those service users who have sadly passed away what a wonderful memorial they have left for their friends. This garden will bring immeasurable joy and happiness for all our service users for many years to come. Thank you.”
