To help keep hospital drop-off and pick-up areas available for patients and visitors who need them, we will be introducing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at our hospital sites from 14 September (Altnagelvin Hospital, South West Acute Hospital and Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex).
What does this mean?
The drop-off areas outside our hospital entrances are for short stays only. These spaces are intended for people dropping off or collecting patients and visitors.
The 30-minute maximum stay limit remains unchanged.
What’s changing?
Currently, parking staff monitor these areas and may issue a Parking Charge Notice if a vehicle stays longer than permitted.
From 14 September, ANPR cameras will monitor these areas instead. If a vehicle stays beyond the 30-minute limit, any Parking Charge Notice will be sent by post to the vehicle’s registered keeper.
Two-week warning period
For the first two weeks after the cameras are introduced, drivers who exceed the 30-minute limit will receive a warning letter only.
After this period, Parking Charge Notices may be issued for overstaying vehicles.
Why are we introducing ANPR cameras?
The new system will help us:
- Keep drop-off spaces available for patients and visitors.
- Prevent long-term parking in areas intended for short stays.
- Improve access to hospital entrances.
- Apply parking rules fairly and consistently across our sites.
Before you visit
Please check the signs in the drop-off area and make sure your vehicle leaves within the 30-minute time limit.
