A small team of clinical leaders and senior Human Resources (HR) managers from the Western Trust are travelling to Mumbai, India this week to attend a bespoke recruitment fair.  The fair has been organised to engage, attract and employ experienced doctors to Western Trust hospitals.

A group of four medical and specialist HR staff will be meeting with new doctors, hosting a number of seminars, offering support and interviewing candidates during the three day visit (27th to 29th September).

It is hoped that this unique initiative will attract experienced doctors into various specialities, including Medicine Specialties, Paediatrics, Obstetric and Gynae, Anaesthetics & ICU, Urology, Surgery, Care of the Elderly and more.

Dr Girish Shivashankar, Associate Medical Director, Western Trust said:

“Attracting skilled overseas trained doctors to the Western Trust area remains crucial despite ongoing efforts and plans to train and recruit doctors from home. It is hoped that this approach will help to alleviate a shortage of medical professionals, reduce our dependency and spend on medical locums and foster international collaboration in healthcare.”

“The Western Trust can offer more than a career to any doctor hoping to relocate here. We have an exceptional education system, top universities and a lower cost of living than other areas within the UK. When I first came here my plan was to get my exams and go back to India. 20 years later I am still here – I simply fell in love with the place. For those 20 years, working in the Western Trust has been an enriching journey filled with professional development and growth, and a deep sense of belonging. It is a testament to the warmth and spirit of this remarkable place.”

Geraldine McAleer, Assistant Director of HR at the Western Trust is part of the team travelling to Mumbai, Geraldine said:

“We recognise that demand for our services is increasing across all areas. Without International doctors healthcare would be significantly more challenged than it is now.

“This is the first time we have been to India to recruit like this. We are hoping that the trip will be a successful one for the Trust, and that we will be able to make job offers whilst we are there. Recruiting international doctors will help us supplement the domestic workforce and address medical workforce shortages.”
