The Millcroft Care Home in Enniskillen are delighted to be part of the ‘Creating Intergenerational Communities’ project as part of a planned programme where nursery school children are paired up with residents, creating a special bond between new friends. This initiative is funded through the National Lottery Communities Fund.

Millcroft Care Home is linked with the Magic Roundabout Childcare Facility in Enniskillen as part of this pilot project delivered by Linking Generations Northern Ireland and their UK partners Generations Working Together Scotland and Apples and Honey Nightingale England.

Carmen Leonard, Manager at Millcroft Care Home said:

Margaret McManus And Logan Elliott“We are absolutely delighted to be involved in the Creating Intergeneration Communities project with nursery school children from Magic Roundabout Childcare Facility visiting the Home on a number of occasions over the past few months. This has brought immense joy, fun and interaction between our residents and local children who really look forward to the visits each month and have created such an unique bond with everyone involved in the project.”

Mary Cromie And Rosa McQuaid“The residents and children take part in various activities including arts and crafts, making music, baking and decorating pancakes and we also hosted a very special visit from Fermanagh Fun Farm! We are very grateful for the support of Linking Generations Northern Ireland (LGNI) who have provided training, guidance and ongoing support as well of course to the children, staff and parents at Magic Roundabout – it really is a magical experience for all of us and we hope it will continue into the future.”

Kenneth Atwell With Theo Fitzpatrick GreggElaine Brownlee, Regional Development Worker for Linking Generations NI commented:

“At LGNI we believe intergenerational practice isn’t just a nice thing to do, but an essential practice across all societies that should be embedded within all organisations. This week (24th – 30th April) marks the fifth Global Intergenerational Campaign #GIW24 that LGNI lead on for Northern Ireland, with 15 countries coming together to celebrate and showcase their intergenerational activities!

Iris Neely And Daniel McSherry“We are delighted to have the Millcroft Care Home and The Magic Roundabout Nursery on board as one of our four Creating Intergenerational Communities projects from across NI. Their activities and subsequent feedback from trialling our developing indicators of quality, will help shape and enrich this first of its kind guidance, in addition to their residents and children reaping the benefits brought about from Intergenerational practice. This multi-year project is led by Generations Working Together in partnership with LGNI and Apples and Honey at Nightingale and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund! ”
