Our Health Improvement Department in partnership with Department for Communities (DfC) recently hosted a Shared Learning Day to explore new approaches to improving Health and Well-being in Neighbourhood Renewal Areas of Omagh and Enniskillen.
The Neighbourhood Renewal Health project aims to address key health challenges including mental health, obesity and substance misuse. The programme seeks to empower Individuals with greater self-confidence, strengthen communities capacity to drive renewal and encourage healthier lifestyles
Mairéad Taggart, Health Coordinator Neighbourhood Renewal Health Improvement Equality & Involvement at the Western Trust explained:
“We were delighted to host first ever shared learning day for the Neighbourhood Renewal Areas of Omagh and Enniskillen on Wednesday, 5th March, at Mahon’s Hotel, Irvinestown. This event provided community groups from both areas the opportunity to come together to learn, exchange ideas, and collaborate on innovative ways to improve health outcomes.
“The event featured guest speakers from the Portadown Wellness Centre and The Colin Partnership, Belfast who shared invaluable insights and best practices. The community groups were joined by our statutory partners helping to strengthen partnership working across all Omagh and Enniskillen Neighbourhood Renewal Areas. This event was a resounding success with so many new ideas being discussed for the 2025/26 Health Project. The renewed focus will address various aspects of Mental and Physical Health ensuring continued progress in tackling health inequalities.
“The day started with a snap shot insight into the health inequalities and trends that are currently presenting across Omagh and Enniskillen, in the hope that by working collaboratively and in partnership we may be able to address some of these issues.
“Thank you to our community volunteers; statutory partners; guest speakers and funders Department for Communities (DfC) for their ongoing support. Their commitment is helping to drive forward innovative approaches to tackling Health Inequalities in these communities.”
