One of the ambitions of the Western Trust is “A Great Place to Work” which focuses on staff wellbeing.

We recognise that our staff are our most valuable resource. Investment and development into staff wellbeing remains a priority for the Trust to support and maintain a healthy and engaged health promoting workplace.

The Trust has recently developed a Wellbeing Framework to support the development of a cohesive staff wellbeing system, with an appropriate governance and reporting structure.

The Health Improvement Equality and Involvement team continues to promote and enhance provision of staff wellbeing through a range of services to maintain and improve wellbeing at work including:

  • Staff wellbeing hub – Twist West www.twistwest.org please note our staff wellbeing website is password protected.
  • Weekly Staff Wellbeing newsletters to connect and engage with staff highlighting key programmes, training and information
  • “We Are With You” staff wellbeing programme – funded for 2 years via NHS charities
  • Breastfeeding and returning to work support
  • Corporate rates allow staff to avail of reduced rates at a number of fitness centres across Western Trust area
  • Cycle to Work scheme (up to 33% off the price of a bike). Price of bike is usually deducted from salary over the period of 12 months
  • Half Price Swim Scheme where staff can avail of half-price swimming at selected leisure facilities – Download/Print the application form
  • Couch to 5K for staff
  • Smoking Cessation service – as well providing training, the smoking cessation team offer support to all staff who wish to stop smoking. For more information call the dedicated helpline number on 0800 9179 388
  • A yearly ‘Menu of Programmes’ to support and empower staff wellbeing
  • HERE ALL YEAR – all relevant health and wellbeing training, activities, support available for staff all year round
  • Health Improvement, Equality and Involvement training brochure choose from a range of courses with a range of topics including autism awareness, mental health and suicide prevention, sexual health services, sleep awareness, nutrition awareness – food and health essentials, walk leader, smoking cessation support and more. Staff Wellbeing Initiatives

Staff wellbeing is further being addressed through a number of initiatives spanning across various departments and Directorates in Western Trust. These include:

  • Occupational Health and Wellbeing support. Contact 028 7161 1407 or ext 214422
  • A new Occupational Health psychology service.
  • Development of a dedicated MDT team within Occupational Health to support staff who are suffering from Long Covid and other long term conditions
  • Staff Health and Wellbeing fund – £3 million Staff Support Fund donated from Minister Swann
  • Chaplaincy team to provide dedicated support for staff, patients and families
  • Planned provision of psychological support through the Thrive programme
  • CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) service – CISM is a one-off group-based intervention/ debrief which helps manage the emotional impact of a traumatic or untoward event which has happened at work. For further information, email CISM@westerntrust.hscni.net
  • Staff APP, ‘We Are West’, is available for download to your phone. Use your Staff ID number as your Username.
  • Increased capacity that allows our Organisation and Workforce Development team to provide support to team who need it most based around our L&D strategy of ‘Connect-Learn-Support’
  • Support the work of the Equality Diversity and Inclusion agenda through the Ethnically Diverse Staff network
  • Menopause Group to support implementation of the Menopause Policy and action plan
  • Carers Support for staff who are carers
