    ENJOY HEALTHY EATING

    What we eat every day has a big impact on our health – from the amount of energy we have when we get up in the morning to our risk of developing conditions like heart disease and cancer in the future. A healthy diet doesn’t have to be boring or restrictive – we can still eat a wide range of delicious foods, while keeping an eye on our intake of sugar, fat and salt. This has been updated in accordance with the Eatwell Guide.

    VITAMIN D AND YOU

    The PDF of this leaflet has been updated following the publication of a review of the evidence on vitamin D and health by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN). It highlights the importance of vitamin D supplements for particular groups, including babies, children aged between 1 and 4 years, people whose exposure to sunlight is limited, and those with darker skins (e.g. those of African, African-Caribbean and South Asian origin). It also outlines new recommendations that all adults and children aged 5 and over should consider taking vitamin D supplements during the autumn and winter months (October to late March/April).

    This leaflet provides guidance to older adults on the amount of physical activity they should be aiming for and the health benefits associated with staying active. It also offers tips and ideas on activities that older people may find useful and appropriate. The leaflet is aimed at older people of most physical capabilities.

    STEP BY STEP FOR HEALTH FITNESS AND FUN! – Your Walking Book

    This booklet has been developed for adults with learning disabilities to encourage them to walk more. Using simply illustrated text, it outlines the benefits of walking for everyone and encourages participants to track their daily steps in order to build up to over 10,000 a day.

    TAKE THE NEXT STEP

    This A5 booklet encourages people to increase their level of physical activity by monitoring the number of steps they take each day and aiming to increase it. It covers why walking is a good way to get more active, how to count your steps, setting targets, tips on how to fit more walking into your day and ideas for making it more interesting, including by taking part in an individual or group Step Challenge.

  • Mental Health

    CONCERNED ABOUT SUICIDE

    This leaflet contains information on what you can say and do to help someone who may be thinking of suicide.  It highlights the warning signs, explains the feelings a suicidal person can have and provides a step-by-step guide to having a conversation and helping someone you’re worried about.  It also lists a number of support services for people having suicidal thoughts.

    TAKE 5 STEPS TO WELLBEING

    Most of us know when we are mentally and physically well, but sometimes we need a little extra help to keep well. This leaflet and poster outline five simple ways in which people can maintain and improve their mental wellbeing.

    STEPS TO DEAL WITH STRESS

    The Steps to deal with stress booklet provides tips and practical advice on coping with stress in your life and covers recognising stress, getting ready, coping better, learning from bad experiences and taking action now. Simple steps such as relaxation exercises and talking to someone can help you feel better and put you in a better frame of mind for dealing with your problems.

    This leaflet encourages uptake of the flu vaccine for those people in at-risk groups. Most children aged 2 years up to less than 18 years in at risk groups will receive a nasal spray vaccine rather than an injection.

    This booklet is the third in a series of Work Well guides aimed at promoting health in the workplace. It outlines to employers the business benefits of encouraging mothers to continue breastfeeding on return to work, the health benefits of breastfeeding for mums, the legislation affecting mothers at work, and some easy steps that employers can take to support breastfeeding mothers.

    This leaflet aims to encourage breastfeeding mothers to continue breastfeeding after they have returned to work.
    It highlights the benefits of continuing to breastfeed, sets out the options for combining breastfeeding and work, explain the rights breastfeeding mothers have to support from their employer, and outlines what facilities and equipment mothers will need to express milk at work.

    This leaflet is for grandparents who want to support their daughter or son’s partner in their decision to breastfeed. It answers any questions or concerns they may have and describes what support they can offer.

    Leaflet explains the results of the cervical screening test which is designed to pick up any changes in cells on the cervix (lower part of the womb) so they can be easily and effectively monitored or treated.

    This leaflet provides breast screening and breast awareness information to women over 70. Although women over 70 are not routinely invited for breast screening, they are encouraged to call the local unit to request breast screening every three years.

    Booklet for anyone concerned that their drinking is affecting them in a negative way.  The booklet aims to help the reader examine their own alcohol use and will provide information and practical ideas that will help them make choices that are right for them

    FOCUS ON ALCOHOL

    This leaflet incorporates the current advice on low risk drinking from the four UK Chief Medical Officers, published in January 2016. It lists the long and short-term effects of drinking too much alcohol and outlines the recommended limits for low risk drinking, as well as providing tips on how to stick to these limits. The leaflet also offers a guide to how many units of alcohol are in common drinks.

  • Stroke

    STROKE CAMPAIGN LEAFLET

    The F.A.S.T materials (poster/leaflet/wallet card) convey the signs and symptoms of stroke, and the call to action, that it’s a medical emergency to call 999 immediately if you see any one of these signs. A fast response to the signs and symptoms of stroke can reduce the long term health consequences such as disability and death. Attached below are the public information leaflets (male and female version), posters and wallet card available as part of the campaign.
