Pupils at the UNICEF and Western Trust training event for schools

As part of World Mental Health Day 2024, our Emotional Wellbeing Teams in Schools (EWTS) have partnered with UNICEF to train young people from post-primary schools across Derry and Strabane on the Rights of the Child. EWTS, who work within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Young People  in the Western Trust, are proud to support the City and District’s journey to becoming a Child Friendly City.

A huge thank you to Foyle College for hosting this event, and to all the schools and amazing young people who attended and participated in the event! We’re excited to see how they will help spread the message of children’s rights across our city and district, making sure every child’s voice is heard and respected.

Trust Service Manager Edel O’Neil said:

“The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) alongside their Emotional Wellbeing Team in Schools (EWTS) were delighted to work in partnership with UNICEF to deliver training on the Rights of The Child to pupils and teachers across schools in the Derry and Strabane District Council.

“This event was timely, taking place on World Mental Health Day, and ended a week of training that saw staff in CAMHS and EWTS receive this valuable training.

“This was a really inspiring day hearing from the young people themselves and the positive participation from them on how we, as a service, make sure their voice and their needs are the foundation on which our service is built for both them and their families.”
