Our Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Team held an Appreciation Morning on Wednesday 22nd January at the Silver Birch Hotel, Omagh in recognition of five years since the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 that came into effect on 2nd December 2019.
This was an opportunity to reflect on the journey from the initial implementation, the progress and challenges to date and consider the next phase of the Mental Capacity Act Legislation. Phil Hughes (MBE), Regional Department of Health MCA advisor and members of the Western Trust MCA Team gave presentations on the day.
Shauna Gillespie, MCA Implementation Lead, said:
“Our Appreciation Morning was a wonderful opportunity for us to recognise the progress made within our Trust over the past 5 years with regards to the legislation and to look forward to making further progress in the future.”
Karen O’Brien, Director of Adult Mental Health and Learning Disability Services, commented:
“I was delighted to be at this event today, recognising the dedication of our staff and the progress made in implementing the MCA legislation within the Western Trust. We also heard about the regional progress of the MCA from Phil Hughes (MBE). I would like to extend special thanks to all our MCA staff for their continued work and dedication in implementing the legislation over the past 5 years and into the future.”
