The Trust’s Acute Liaison Nurses for Learning Disability have been announced as the latest winners of the We Are West Mission Cup. The team received their award from Chair, Dr Tom Frawley and Chief Executive, Mr Neil Guckian at a presentation held at the end of October.

The Acute Liaison Nursing Service was set up in 2019 to address health inequalities and ensure better health outcomes for people with a learning disability. The small team work in partnership with hospital staff to support the delivery of informed, equitable, safe and effective healthcare for adult inpatients with learning disabilities. Since the service commenced the team have worked to bridge the gap between hospital and community care. They help make the hospital journey less stressful and complex for the patient and their families.

Emer Ferguson and Sinead McLaughlin with the Mission CupThe Mission Cup is an initiative recognising teams that epitomise and live by the Western Trust’s mission statement, ‘We Are West; Caring Together; Committed to Better’. It is part of the Trust’s wider staff recognition programme that aims to shine a light on the commitment, compassionate care and innovative practices demonstrated by effective Trust teams. The trophy is presented bi-monthly and is decided on by the current champions – in the spirit of peer to peer recognition. The Acute Liaison nurses for Learning Disability were nominated for the award by the previous winners and close colleagues, The Pre-Operative Assessment Team.

Congratulating the team, Neil Guckian said:
