Greenfield Residential Home in Strabane held a very special birthday party this week to mark their oldest resident Patrick McKeever’s 100th birthday!
Eilish Morris, Greenfield Residential Home Manager said: “Patrick’s family along with staff and residents are delighted to celebrate this incredible centenary milestone. Patrick is our oldest resident and is very popular with everyone. He is such a wonderful character and we are so happy to be able to share this happy occasion with his family. Patrick received lots of cards and gifts and was particularly pleased to receive a telegram from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Patrick was born in Derry/Londonderry on 6th October 1920. He lived in the Brandywell most of his life later moving to Hamilton Street in the City. Patrick attended Christian Brothers School and later the Technical College on the Strand Road where he obtained his City and Guild in Electrical Installation and Repairs.
Patrick worked as a service engineer in his electrical shop ‘Carlisle House’, where he repaired watches and musical instruments. Patrick married Phyllis and had one Daughter Doreen. He has two granddaughters Grainne and Roisin and one grandson Declan.
Patrick enjoyed fishing / angling but he didn’t like killing the Salmon and always threw them back into the water. Patrick also enjoyed walks with the dog out hunting but didn’t kill any rabbits as he was against animal cruelty. He was also a bee keeper!
Patrick is a keen Singer (Tenor) and Dancer and has made lots of friends through singing and dancing in small halls and churches. Patrick’s favourite song is Moira My Girl. He also likes poetry and Natural history.
Patrick says that the secret to his long life is when he does things he likes to do it properly, he is very dedicated and everything must be perfect. Patrick has good faith and says he has to be dependent on God and whatever he sends us, until his last call comes.
Wishing you a very happy 100th birthday Patrick and continued good health and happiness!
