The Western Trust is celebrating the success of its ‘Unheard Voices – The Reality of Addiction, Mental Health and Recovery’ exhibition, which has travelled across the Western Trust area throughout October, sharing powerful stories of lived experience, hope, resilience and recovery.
More than 70 individuals have contributed work to the exhibition, using a range of creative mediums to express their experiences of addiction, mental health and recovery.
The exhibition has brought together individuals supported by the Western Trust Alcohol and Drugs Community Service, Asha Inpatient Unit, Action Mental Health Foyle, Fermanagh New Horizons, ARC Fitness, Ramona House, Voices, The Daisy Project and Northlands.
Following exhibitions at the Millennium Forum in Derry/Londonderry, Strule Arts Centre in Omagh and Enniskillen Castle, the final stage of ‘Unheard Voices’ is now taking place at the Garden of Reflection, Derry/Londonderry, until Tuesday 20 October 2026.
The exhibition is free to attend and is open at the Garden of Reflection from 10.00am to 5.00pm, with everyone welcome to come along.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council also visited the exhibition at the Garden of Reflection this week, showing her support for the initiative and those who contributed their work.
Dr Sharon McElroy, Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist with the Western Trust Alcohol and Drugs Service, said:
“Over 70 individuals have contributed their work to the exhibition, with collaboration from a range of services to ensure their voices, experiences and messages of hope and recovery were heard.
“The exhibition has travelled throughout the Western Trust area, being displayed in free, accessible venues to ensure as many people as possible had the opportunity to attend, engage with the work and hear the powerful messages of hope, recovery and resilience.
“The exhibition highlights the power of lived experience, creativity and collaboration in challenging stigma, raising awareness of mental health and addiction, and inspiring hope for recovery.
“We would like to thank our council colleagues, participating community and voluntary organisations, and everyone who has supported the exhibitions throughout their journey.
“Together, we can show what struggle, hope and recovery really looks like.”
The exhibition has been supported by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council, alongside participating community and voluntary organisations.
