Celebrating a Strong Partnership Between Western Trust Day Opportunities Services and the National Trust
Our Day Opportunities Services in the Southern Sector are proud to highlight its valued partnership with the National Trust.
Geraldine McGurk, Community Access Worker – New Directions Service, Adult Learning Disability Omagh & Fermanagh explained:
“The National Trust in Co Fermanagh has been working closely with the New Directions Service and Fresh Focus Service to support individuals through a range of volunteering opportunities, work placements and, more recently, group-based activities at Florence Court House Gardens, Co Fermanagh. These experiences have enabled participants to develop new skills, build confidence, increase independence, and make positive contributions within their communities.
“The partnership has provided a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals can gain practical experience, develop social connections, and enjoy the benefits of being active members of their local community.
“Most recently, the National Trust generously donated 50 Acorn Passes to people with a learning disability. The Acorn Pass allows individuals, along with a family member, friend, or carer, free access to any of the National Trust sites across Northern Ireland.
“This generous donation has opened up opportunities for individuals and their families to explore some of National Trust’s most beautiful historic houses, gardens, parks, and outdoor spaces. Access to these sites promotes health and wellbeing, encourages community participation, and provides valuable opportunities for families to spend quality time together.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the National Trust team in Co Fermanagh for their continued support and dedication to creating opportunities for people with a learning disability. Through volunteering, group activities, and the provision of Acorn Passes, this partnership is helping individuals achieve greater independence, build confidence, and enjoy new experiences within their communities.
“Together, we are making a positive difference by promoting inclusion, wellbeing, and meaningful participation for everyone.”
