The Western Trust has announced the appointment of Mr Brian Telford who has been elected Vice Chair of the Trust Board, following a vote by Board members at the July 2026 Trust Board meeting.
Karen Hargan, Western Trust Chief Executive said:
“Brian’s appointment follows the untimely death of the Trust’s Chair, Dr Tom Frawley, whose sudden passing was deeply felt across the organisation and wider health and social care community. At the July 2026 Board meeting, members paid tribute to Dr Frawley’s significant contribution to public service and to the Western Trust, recognising his leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment to patients, service users, staff and the communities we serve.
“Brian Telford serves as a Non-Executive Director of the Trust Board and is well known to colleagues for his commitment to improving health and social care services across the West. In taking on the role of Vice Chair, he will support the Board as it continues to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the organisation.
“Welcoming the appointment, the Trust acknowledged the importance of continuity and stability in Board leadership at a time when health and social care services continue to face significant opportunities and challenges.
“The Trust would like to congratulate Brian on his appointment and wishes him every success in his new role.
“At the same time, we continue to remember and honour the legacy of Dr Tom Frawley, whose contribution to the Western Trust and public service in Northern Ireland will be remembered with great respect, gratitude and affection.”
