Western Trust Baby Hip Service Overview

The nurse-led Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) service covers the Northern and Southern sectors of the Western Trust, including Derry/Londonderry, Tyrone, and Fermanagh. Appointments are allocated based on your home address.

Weekly Co-Located Clinics

We offer two weekly clinics where your baby will receive an ultrasound scan and an examination from a trained DDH nurse on the same day:

  • Wednesdays: Roe Valley Hospital, Limavady
  • Fridays: Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex
Our Screening Programme

The Western Trust uses a selective screening programme alongside investigating babies with clinical findings. Your baby will be screened if they meet any of the following criteria:

Position and History
  • Breech, transverse, or unstable lie presentation after 36 weeks
  • Family history of DDH (1st-degree relative treated)
  • Clinical Findings
  • Fixed talipes
  • Barlow or Ortolani positive tests
  • Leg length discrepancy
  • Restricted abduction
