“The reason why I wanted to volunteer in Altnagelvin is because I wanted to give back and I wanted to learn new skills and knowledge. I have a good understanding of patient confidentiality and how important it is so I was keen to help patients and visitors coming in to the hospital.
“I have learned many things whilst volunteering including helping people at the check-in kiosks and directing people around the hospital. I understand that people come from all backgrounds and walks of life and it is important to treat everyone with kindness and patience.
“I love helping people find clinics and wards as I find that visitors often struggle to find their way around the hospital and can easily get lost. It feels good to help people who are confused or don’t understand the layout of the hospital.
“I would recommend volunteering as it feels very worthwhile to help someone who needs information or directions. I can see how my help can help reduce stress, anxiety and confusion that someone may be experiencing and I am happy to help in any small way.”
