The Western Trust is delighted to welcome a new cohort of newly qualified midwives to its maternity teams at Altnagelvin Hospital and South West Acute Hospital.
The newly appointed midwives have completed either the BSc (Hons) Midwifery undergraduate programme or the Postgraduate Masters in Midwifery, having trained at Queen’s University Belfast and universities across the UK.
Brenda McClafferty, Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology Services, said:
“We are delighted by the strong response from newly qualified midwives and are pleased to be able to offer them positions within the Western Trust.
“We warmly welcome all of our recently qualified midwives, many of whom have completed placements across our maternity services over the past number of years. We wish them every success and fulfilment as they begin their careers supporting mothers and their babies.”
Shonagh Clifford, Lead Midwife at Altnagelvin Hospital, added:
“I am pleased to welcome our newly qualified midwives to the maternity unit at Altnagelvin Hospital. Their hard work and dedication have been evident throughout their training, and we are delighted they have chosen to begin their careers within the Western Trust.
“Our new recruits bring a wealth of diversity, including international midwives, those joining directly from school locally, those trained across the UK, and others who have come to midwifery later in life. Their enthusiasm and commitment to caring for families has been clear from the outset, and families across the North West will benefit greatly from their contribution.”
Brenda McCabe, Lead Midwife for South West Acute Hospital and Omagh Hospital, highlighted the importance of promoting midwifery as a career:
“We are encouraged to see an increase in applications to midwifery from within the Western Trust area, which is vital in supporting the development of our future workforce.
“It is exciting to welcome this new cohort to the South West Acute Hospital, and I would like to congratulate them on their hard work and dedication. We wish them every success as they begin their careers in midwifery.”
