Patients and Services Users in the Western Trust are being encouraged to sign up to ‘My Care’ to view their healthcare information.

With over 38,000 people in the Western Trust already signed up, the ‘My Care’ patient portal gives patients easy and secure access to specific parts of their medical records, such as medications, appointments and some test results online.

Available on iOS, Android devices and via web browser, ‘My Care’ helps people stay informed and connected to their healthcare journey, anytime and anywhere. It was developed as part of the encompass programme which created a single digital health record for every citizen in Northern Ireland.

Chief Clinical Information Officer for the Western Trust and Chair of the regional encompass My Care patient portal governance group Dr Neil Black said:

“I encourage all Western Trust patients and service users to sign up to the app. My Care offers huge benefits at the palm of your hand and provides personalised and secure access to your appointments and some test results and letters which you would have previously waited for. You will be notified of your appointment or letter as soon as it is available, earlier and more reliable than waiting for a letter to arrive.”

‘My Care’ Service User Juanita is encouraging everyone to start using My Care, she said:

“I started using it roughly about a year ago, a few weeks after encompass launched. I was directed to it by a nurse who gave me a leaflet and said, “Join this,” because I wanted to know what my test results were. It’s honestly the best thing I ever could have done.

“When I first installed the app, I didn’t really understand how it worked, but when my first test results came in, I received an email, logged in, and instantly my results were there. I was then able to look at all my appointments that had already been registered and loaded onto the system.”

Juanita continued:

“It also gives me a real sense of control over my health, because I can go in and look at my test results whenever I want. The app also gives you so much more freedom when it comes to appointments. When an appointment comes in, it’s instant and you don’t have to wait for it to arrive in the post.

“As a service user, I really recommend everyone download this app because it makes life so much easier. No more missed appointments, no more wondering what’s going on with your blood test results, and no more asking, “What is the doctor recommending? It really will make your life so much easier.. get downloading it today.”
