Ethnically Diverse Staff Network hosts Family Fun Event celebrating community, connection and cultural diversity

Derry City & Strabane District Council, in partnership with the Western Trust Ethnically Diverse Staff Network, hosted a vibrant Family Fun Event at Foyle Arena on Sunday 29 March 2026, bringing together staff, families and community partners to celebrate diversity and promote good relations across the area.

The event welcomed Western Trust staff and families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and provided an opportunity to connect outside of the workplace, strengthening relationships while celebrating the richness and diversity within the Western Trust workforce and the wider community.

Families enjoyed an afternoon of fun-filled activities in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The event also offered an opportunity to engage with partners and local services, reflecting the shared commitment of Derry City & Strabane District Council and the Western Trust Ethnically Diverse Staff Network to fostering understanding, inclusion and positive community relations.

Speaking at the event, Roshin Rahman, Chair of the Western Trust Ethnically Diverse Staff Network, said:

“Events like this are about creating safe, welcoming spaces where staff, families and communities can come together, connect and celebrate diversity. It’s about belonging, understanding one another, and recognising the many cultures that enrich our workforce and our communities.”

Cllr Ruairí McHugh, Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District Council added:

“This Family Fun Event is a celebration of the diversity that makes our District such a vibrant and welcoming place. By working in partnership with the Western Trust Ethnically Diverse Staff Network, we are helping to build stronger connections, promote inclusion and ensure that everyone feels valued and respected. These events play an important role in strengthening community relations and creating a sense of shared belonging.”

The Family Fun Event highlighted ongoing good relations work across both organisations and demonstrated their shared commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming and culturally aware environments for staff, families and residents.
