World Autism Acceptance week provides us with an opportunity to increase understanding and acceptance of autism across our local communities.

We, in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and the Department for the Economy – Careers Advice Service are hosting a number of events in the lead up to and including World Autism Acceptance Week 2026 (28 March to 03 April 2026).

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are starting off the Calendar of Events on Thursday 19th March 2026 by hosting an Outdoor Sensory Event – Nature Makes Sense at The Grange in Omagh. A further event is scheduled for Thursday 26th March 2026 at Smith’s Strand in Lisnaskea.

The Western Trust are hosting a number of virtual online intervention sessions for parents/carers of children and young people who have a confirmed diagnosis of autism including; “Supporting Sensory Differences,” “Autism and Anxiety and “Autism and the Teenage Years.”

In addition, the Early Intervention Team are hosting virtual events online for those awaiting their diagnostic assessment on, “The Power of Play,” and “Worries and Me.”

Autism Awareness Training for professionals working with Children, Young People and their families will be facilitated on 1st April 2026. The aim of the training is to equip professionals with practical tips and strategies while they support children/young people and their families who present with features of Autism, have a diagnosis of Autism or are awaiting their autism assessment.

On World Autism Awareness Day 2nd April 2026, the Department for the Economy are hosting a Careers Service Awareness Session for parents to help them find out how the Careers Service can support parents and their children/young people to navigate the options available and plan for next steps. The Careers Service has recently developed a new digital support tool “How I Work,” which has been specifically designed for young people with autism.
